Meet The Candidates

Matt Wagner is a junior in the SFS from San Diego, California, majoring in International Politics / Security Studies and pursuing a certificate in Arab Studies. Matt has served two terms as a GUSA Senator, representing Harbin 2-4 in 2007-2008 and McCarthy 6-8 in 2008-2009. During his first term in the Senate, he served on the Finance and Appropriations committee and chaired the Academic Affairs committee, where he ultimately achieved a university-wide extension of the add/drop period. During his second term, Matt was elected by the full Senate to chair the Finance and Appropriations committee. In that capacity, he held the third-highest position in the Senate and the one responsible for chairing the University Funding Board, which allocates over half a million dollars every year to student groups, clubs, and club sports teams. He oversaw the largest-ever increase in funding for club sports at Georgetown, with the amount allocated to the fledgling Advisory Board for Club Sports growing by 500 percent. Matt has also gotten involved on campus outside of student government as a member of Superfood acapella, a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, an ESCAPE leader on Team XVIII, an Orientation Advisor for NSO 2008, and a cast member of Mask & Bauble's spring 2009 musical, Jekyll and Hyde. Matt spent this past fall semester abroad in Amman, Jordan having a blast and studying Arabic, but he couldn't be happier to be back home on the Hilltop.

Emmanuel Hampton is a junior in the College majoring in Government and minoring in English. Emmanuel is from Sugar Land, Texas, so it should come as no surprise that his hobbies include watching football, playing football, and thinking about watching and playing football. He also lived in Darnall his freshman year, so it should also come as no surprise that his hobbies now also include long walks across campus. In his time at Georgetown, Emmanuel has been involved in a wide variety of activities. He is a member of Delta Phi Epsilon, the Foreign Service Fraternity, a Grillmaster in the Georgetown University Grilling Society, and a proud and newly-inducted member of Georgetown University Brothers for Christ. He is also the current secretary of the Georgetown Southern Society and a member of the Philodemic Society. Emmanuel has also served in the College Democrats as a member of the communications staff and as the Director of Campus Outreach, and in the GUSA Senate where he succeeded Matt as the chair of the Academic Affairs committee. Emmanuel is really looking forward to bringing his experience to the GUSA executive, particularly getting to work on campus safety, the off-campus housing fair, and extending meal plan options.
